Crime Scene Investigation / Laboratory Overview Microsoft Teams Online Class

Date(s): Wednesday, August 9th 2023 at 08:30 AM – Friday, August 11th 2023 at 05:00 PM

This course is designed to give an overview of recommended best practices for conducting thorough crime scene investigations. To do this the Forensic Training Section will provide instruction on topics such as a systematic approach to crime scene search, crime scene photography, note taking and sketching, and the use of alternate light sources and BLUESTAR® in investigations. The third day will have presentations from numerous Forensic Scientists covering their specific disciplines. Online resources such as the Evidence Handling and Laboratories Capabilities Guide, policy notices, and examples of Requests for Laboratory Analysis will also be addressed. Graduates of the Forensic Science Academy are welcomed to attend for a review / update.

The course will be taught online via Microsoft Teams from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. Students do not need any special software to participate, however they will need a reliable internet connection. Also, if you will be using an agency issued computer, please ensure prior to the class date there is no internal agency policy prohibiting access to Microsoft Teams via the internet. Applicants that are selected to attend will receive an invitation email with a Microsoft Teams link, which will be used for all three days of the training. This will be sent two weeks prior to the class.

This course will be limited to 100 participants and is restricted to personnel from Virginia law enforcement agencies.
