NIBIN Searches

Please use the information below to determine the NIBIN sites searched by the Virginia Department of Forensic Science. The dates at the top of the Certificate of Analysis (CoA) is used to determine the extent of the NIBIN database search.

Locations included in routine NIBIN searches

Note: As of December 4, local Virginia NIBIN sites include Richmond Police Department, Newport News Police Department, and Norfolk Police Department. If other local agencies become NIBIN entry sites, they are automatically added to the DFS search algorithm.

For jurisdictions served by the Northern Laboratory, manual searches are also performed and include the District of Columbia (DC) Department of Forensic Sciences and Prince George’s County Police Department (Maryland).

*ATF Zone 1 generally includes agencies within Connecticut, District of Columbia, Delaware, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Virginia, Vermont and West Virginia, but not all agencies in these states submit cases to the ATF.
