Career Paths
At DFS, we offer three core forensic career paths, with additional paths available in administrative roles. Below is an overview of the forensic career paths:

Forensic Evidence Specialists
This role is responsible for receiving crime scene evidence from law enforcement agencies, safeguarding it, and ensuring it is routed to the appropriate laboratory sections for analysis. Please note that this is not a scientific position. These positions are often filled by individuals with prior experience in law enforcement or evidence handling.
Forensic Laboratory Specialists
These positions serve as laboratory assistants, helping prepare solutions and maintain equipment for use by Forensic Scientists. Please note that prior laboratory experience is required for these roles. While the educational and experience requirements are less advanced than those for Forensic Scientist positions, these roles still require a strong foundation in laboratory practices.
Forensic Scientists
These professionals perform the actual analysis of forensic evidence. They are highly specialized and educated scientists with expertise in forensic analysis and experience testifying as expert witnesses in court. These positions require advanced education and training, as well as strong analytical skills and the ability to communicate findings effectively in both written reports and courtroom testimony.
